Yobe State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports killed in fatal crash
Goni Bukar Lawan, the Yobe State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, was killed in a deadly collision.
Former House of Representatives member Lawan was reportedly killed on Tuesday night while traveling to Kano State in a single fatal car accident.
The event was reported on Wednesday by the Federal Road Safety Corps in Bauchi State.
Yusuf Abdullahi, the state’s FRSC Sector Commander, reported that the event took place on Tuesday at around 6.15 p.m.
In the Dambam local government area of Bauchi state, he continued, the fatal collision happened close to the A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village along the Dambam – Potiskum highway.
He claims that within 12 minutes of the FRSC receiving word of the incident, staff from the Dambam Station office arrived at the scene to begin a rescue effort.
Abdullahi said, “The lone fatal crash happened on Tuesday at about 6.15 pm and immediately we were informed, our men rushed to the scene within 12 minutes for a rescue operation.
“The incident happened along Dambam – Potiskum road, adjacent to A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village, along Kum in Dambam local government area of Bauchi state.
“It involved a government vehicle, a Lexus Jeep – GX 470 – with registration number: 11A01YB.
“The vehicle was driven by Hon. Goni Bukar Lawn and he was with one other male adult when the crash happened. The other person sustained some injuries.
“The crash was caused by a speed violation which led to a loss of control.”
He said that the victims were taken to the Dambam General Hospital for treatment and confirmation by members of the Nigeria Police Force’s Motor Transport Division from the Dambam Divisional Headquarters.
He continued by saying that the car had been taken off the road and that the area was now clear for traffic.
