Tanzania: President Samia Suluhu Hassan appoints new chief of defense forces
President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, who now serves as the military’s supreme commander, elected General Jacob John Mkunda as new chief of defense forces on Wednesday.
Former chief of defense Gen. Venance Mabeyo has resigned, and Mkunda, who was sworn in by President Hassan on Thursday, replaces him.
According to the release, Gen. Mkunda served as the Tanzania People’s Defense Forces’ Chief of Operations and Training previous to his current position (TPDF).
