Protests on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway as police shoot and kill two commuters
Some unidentified individuals from the Nigeria Police Force’s Ogun State command are said to have murdered two commuters, a truck driver and his motor boy, on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway’s Itori axis.
According to Daily Post, police officers in their patrol vehicle met the victims on Monday while driving against traffic to escape a terrible section of road in Ewekoro Local Government, the same offense the cops were accused of doing
According to a source, “they told the truck driver to turn around when they saw him. They blasted the driver’s tires as he made an effort to resist.
“This sparked a fight, and after it was all said and done, the policeman shot and killed the truck driver and his motor boy. The unjust execution of the driver and his colleague was the reason why the youngsters of Itori blocked the route, according to an eyewitness.
All business operations in the region were disrupted as a result of the tragedy.
The traffic bottleneck, which began to worsen about 4pm, kept travelers stuck in traffic for hours with no apparent end in sight.
Therefore, many drivers used alternative, bushy routes where they had to first “settle” local guys before continuing their journey.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police, confirmed that there had been an incident in Itori but said the Divisional Police Officer in Itori had yet to properly brief him on the details.
