president of Egypt appeals to world leaders to help Africa’s efforts to combat climate change
Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt, urged the rest of the world on Monday to aid Africa in its efforts to combat climate change, stressing that the continent has been more severely impacted than other regions globally.
El-Sisi made the request in his remarks at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue’s High-Level Session in Berlin, Germany.
“The difficulties that African countries must overcome have been made worse by the current food and energy crises.” Along with the genuine threat posed by climate change, the countries of the continent also experience desertification, water scarcity, high sea levels, floods, and torrential rains, among other extreme weather events that are accelerating and having a greater impact, he continued.
El-Sisi urged support for African nations so they might be enabled to capitalize on their natural resources and achieve economic growth in line with initiatives to fight climate change and protect the environment.
He stated that this would be accomplished through a thorough strategy that takes into account the national economic and developmental circumstances of each country.
Concerns about the effects of climate change have spread throughout the world.
