Nigerian athletes book a spot in the women’s 100m semi-final
Grace Nwokocha, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Joy Udo-Gabriel, all three of Nigeria’s competitors in the women’s 100-meter event at the current Commonwealth Games, secured semi-final spots, increasing their chances of placing on the podium.
Their experience was a replica of what the male squad went through. While Udo-Gabriel posted a Season Best time of 11.43 to finish third in heat 5, Nwokocha and Chukwuma won the first and fourth heats, respectively.
Nwokocha finished the heats in first place with a time of 10.99 seconds, while Chukwuma came in third with a time of 11.02.
Favour Ofili, who apparently became ill and did not recover in time for the heats, was replaced by Udo-Gabriel.
