Nigeria News: Gombe street cleaners protest over non-payment of their salaries in 3 months
On Monday, June 27, street cleaners in Gombe state held a peaceful demonstration in the capital city in protest of not receiving their three-month paycheck.
After the contract with the previous employer, INEX Cleaners, expired in April 2022, the Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency (GOSEPA) hired the workers.
The workers demanded that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya order the sanitation agency to pay them their accrued wages for three months during a protest at the Government House, according to Daily Trust.
The General Manager of GOSEPA, Muhammad Ahmed Kumo, addressed them and claimed that various administrative issues were to blame for the payment’s delay.
The issue was being addressed, according to Kumo, who also promised that the workers will receive their payments in three days.
