President Muhammadu Buhari has denied receiving suggestions against the ticket of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.
Peoples Gazette reported on Friday that the Department of State Service (DSS) had issued a warning about the All Progressives Congress’ Muslim-Muslim ticket (APC).
However, the President, via spokesman Garba Shehu, denied the information in a statement.
The statement reads: Senior security officials are reportedly concerned that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket could spark a fresh sectarian conflict that would destabilize Nigeria.
It was claimed that Babagana Monguno, the National Security Advisor, submitted the DSS paper to the President.
It advised Tinubu to think carefully about his choice’s security ramifications before making it public.
According to what we understand, the partnership will undermine Nigeria and inspire Muslim neighbors to attack Christians.
“Our work at the national security level won’t be simple,” an intelligence officer was reported as saying. “Christians are likely to harbor mistrust against a president occupied by two Muslims.”
According to the official, Buhari was not a party to the negotiations that resulted in Tinubu’s announcement of Shettima.
After Tinubu was chosen as the APC presidential nominee in early June, he reportedly started looking for a Muslim running mate and ordered the intelligence assessment.
