EFCC to prosecute 3 persons involved in the alteration of the 2022 presidential pardon list.

EFCC to prosecute 3 persons involved in the alteration of the 2022 presidential pardon list.

Three people who were discovered to have participated in the modification of the 2022 presidential pardon list would be prosecuted, according to plans made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Among the many people whose names were on the pardon list were Joshua Dariye and Jolly Nyame, the former governors of the states of Taraba and Plateau, respectively.

The three people were found to have been involved in changing the report of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy to include the name of a jailed former managing director of a bank, whose case was never taken into consideration by the committee, according to the EFCC investigation report.

Leticia Ayoola-Daniels, the acting director of the Administration of Criminal Justice and Reforms Department, and another federal ministry of justice employee were both cleared in the EFCC report.

An agent of the former bank MD, an assistant chief state counsel in the Federal Ministry of Justice, and a senior officer in the PACPM secretariat were the three people charged in the EFCC report.

According to a source, the EFCC inquiry was prompted by a letter from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), dated June 6, 2022, asking for the investigation of members of the PACPM on claims of conspiracy, abuse of power, bribery, and corruption.

The PACPM was established by the AGF to compile requests for presidential pardons and acts of compassion from deserving individuals who are in custody or have served jail terms and to provide advice to President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The committee completed its task and turned in a report, which was on April 14, 2022, given to the President and the Council of State.

Later, it was discovered that the report had been altered to add the name of the jailed former managing director of a bank, who was not among the individuals for whom a pardon was considered.

A member of the PACPM secretariat and an Assistant Chief State Counsel in the Federal Ministry of Justice received payment from a representative of the imprisoned banker in order to add his name to the list, according to the EFCC’s report from July 2022.

“Efforts are in top gear to arrest the other co-conspirators and upon the conclusion of the investigation, the case file will subsequently be forwarded to our legal and prosecution department for vetting and prosecution”, report said.
