Court stops Oyo deputy governor’s impeachment, adjourned till July 5
The impeachment process against the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has been halted by an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.
Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order on Wednesday when the case filed by the deputy governor Olaniyan, came up for hearing before him.
He ordered that the status quo be maintained until the determination of the suit filed against the lawmakers by the deputy governor.
The court proceeded to adjourn the matter to July 5, in order to allow the House file its reply to the claims made by the deputy governor.
Olaniyan was represented by his counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashani (SAN) while the lawmakers were represented by the Director of Legal Services, O Olabanji.
Following his decamp from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP-dominated House of Assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Olaniyan, with 23 of them signing the impeachment notice. The deputy governor was accused by the House of financial irresponsibility, gross misconduct and insubordination, among other allegations.
Olaniyan also responded to the allegations that were levelled against him.
