BREAKING: Two soldiers were killed in an ambush in northern Togo.
Two soldiers were killed in an ambush by gunmen in north Togo’s Savanes Region on Monday and Tuesday, according to local media.
The attack targeted a military patrol in the village of Tiwoli, close to the major town of Mandouri in the Savanes Region’s Kpendjal Prefecture. The patrolling squad was part of an operation to secure the Savanes region, which has seen an increase in jihadist attacks.
To combat the region’s escalating terror threat, the Togolese government declared a state of emergency in mid-June.
Gunmen carried out “complex and coordinated attacks” in four villages in Togo’s Savanes Region last Thursday night, killing and injuring several people, the country’s armed forces said Saturday.
