Authorities in Nigeria seized approximately 24 kilograms of heroin.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerian anti-drug agency on Sunday, authorities discovered 23.55 kilograms of heroin concealed in cartons of baby food at the international airport in Lagos, the country’s economic hub.
According to Femi Babafemi, a spokesman for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the consignment with a street value of more than 4.5 billion naira (about 10.8 million USD) arrived on board a South African Airways flight Wednesday as part of the consolidated cargo that arrived at the airport’s import shed.
In a series of follow-up operations, NDLEA agents apprehended three individuals, according to Babafemi, who added that the agency will “stay steps ahead of the desperate drug cartels’ trickery.”
The most populous African country has been plagued by cross-border drug trafficking, with frequent reports of illicit drug seizures and suspect arrests at the country’s major airports.
