**Young Man Convicted of Threats and Insults in Guinea**

**Background**

Elhadj Mamadou Doumbouya, a 22-year-old Guinean, has been found guilty of making threats and insults against his stepmother, Tiguidanké Doumbouya. The verdict was delivered by the Dixinn Court of First Instance on July 15, 2025. The case has drawn attention due to the familial nature of the dispute and the defendant’s personal circumstances.

**What Happened**

Born in 2003, Elhadj Mamadou Doumbouya is currently unemployed and has been out of school. He has been detained at the central prison in Conakry since May 28, 2025, following accusations from his stepmother, who acted as the civil party in the case. During the court proceedings, Doumbouya acknowledged the charges against him, admitting to the court that tensions arose from disagreements over financial support and employment assistance from his stepmother.

The court questioned Doumbouya about his educational background and his decision to abandon school. He attributed this to his stepmother’s refusal to pay for his education, despite the availability of public schools nearby.

**Implications**

The case highlights the complex dynamics within family relationships and the challenges faced by young individuals in accessing education and employment. The court sentenced Doumbouya to a six-month prison term, suspended, hoping this would encourage him to seek employment and improve his life circumstances.

**Official Reactions**

Prosecutor Cécé Roger Kolié expressed the hope that the defendant would take this opportunity to reform his behavior, emphasizing that imprisonment might not be the best solution. The presiding judge, Lansana Keïta, delivered the guilty verdict, reflecting the court’s stance on the seriousness of the offenses.

The plaintiff, Tiguidanké Doumbouya, shared her distress in court, recounting incidents of physical and verbal abuse by the defendant. She expressed her desire for peace and an end to the harassment.
