**Guinea’s Political Landscape Faces Transformation Amid Controversy**

**Background**

On July 19, 2025, Guinea’s Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah, presented the provisional results of the Administrative Census for Civil Status (RAVEC). During this event, he delivered a candid message to the country’s political class, signaling a significant shift in the national political landscape.

**What Happened**

Addressing socio-political actors, Prime Minister Bah emphasized the need for traditional political leaders to adapt to a changing environment. He urged them to “roll up their sleeves” and “change paradigms,” indicating the dawn of a new era characterized by fresh perspectives and approaches to governance.

However, these remarks were met with criticism from some political figures. Notably, Döbö Koïvogui, the political secretary of the Union Démocratique de Guinée (UDG), expressed concerns about what he perceived as an attempt to marginalize key political figures. He pointed out the absence of prominent leaders, such as Cellou Dalein Diallo and Sydia Touré, from the RAVEC, suggesting this exclusion contributes to a climate of covert marginalization.

**Implications**

Koïvogui warned that the renewal of Guinea’s political class should not occur through exclusion or decree but rather through democratic elections, competence, and the trust of citizens. He cautioned that continued exclusionary practices could lead to dangerous fractures within the country’s political fabric.

The controversy arises amid a sensitive political transition in Guinea, as authorities strive to rebuild institutional foundations while ensuring inclusivity. Questions linger about whether the announced political renewal will occur with or without the involvement of historical political figures and at what cost.

**Official Reactions**

In response to the Prime Minister’s statements, Koïvogui stressed the importance of elections in determining a nation’s political direction, emphasizing that the expression of competence and voter confidence should guide the process. He warned that the current trajectory could lead to unfavorable outcomes for the country.

The situation reflects broader concerns about the inclusivity of Guinea’s political transition and the potential implications for its future stability.
